KINGDOM OF BELGIUM ECONOMIC MISSION VISIT TO WEST JAVA LED BY HER ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCESS ASTRID OF BELGIUM

BANDUNG - West Java Provincial Government will sign a Letter of Intent (Intent) with the Wallonia Region on Thursday (17.03.16), in the West Hall Gedung Sate - Bandung witnessed by Ven. Princess Astrid of Belgium as a representation of the Kingdom of Belgium and the Vice Governor of West Java Deddy Mizwar. Wallonia Region is in charge of five provinces of Hainaut, Brabant Wallonia, Namur, Liege and Luxembourg.

The LoI will focus on the initiation of cooperation in the field of Education, Economy and Trade, Health, Environmental Protection, Science and Technology within the framework of technical capacity development, government management, the promotion of regional potential and increase business cooperation and investment.

Letter of Intent was signed at the opening of the seminar on "Innovating Partnership" which focused on the discussion of schemes that innovative partnerships and efficiently in accordance with the needs of society and the demands of globalization. In this seminar, each region will present excellent potential and needs of each so it will be easier to map programs / strategic cooperation.

The signing of this LOI is a series of visits Belgian Economic Mission to Indonesia, which was held from 12 to 19 March 2016, with the purpose of Jakarta, the city of Bogor, Bandung, Karawang and Bekasi Regency. This is the third time the Belgian Economic Mission visited West Java.

The purpose of this visit is to boost bilateral economic cooperation by increasing the volume of export, import and investment from and to Indonesia.

This visit involves seven (7) high state officials including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Trade and local officials along with 250 entrepreneurs and business entities of the Kingdom of Belgium are engaged in various fields of business. The delegation was headed by Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium.

To follow up on this Letter of Intent, West Java Provincial Government has appointed the Bureau of Local Autonomy and Cooperation as a liaison. The government has appointed Wallonia Region The Wallonia Export-Investment Agency (AWEx) in charge of such cooperation. However, even though this cooperation is a government to government engagement, it is expected the participation of business entities to be able to encourage and contribute positively to the cooperation that has been initiated both local governments.

Belgium has become a strategic partner for Indonesia, and in West Java itself has a lot of Belgian investors who do business mainly in the sectors of metals, machinery and electronics as well as the textile industry. In addition to trade and investment, ahead of West Java Province certainly hope the cooperation can develop into other sectors such as tourism, education, research and development infrastructure (ports and power plants), which in this region in Belgium has an advantage in that field.
