REGENCY BANDUNG WEST - West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan (Aher) reviewing development projects Upper Cisokan Pumped Storage (UCPS), in District Rongga, West Bandung regency, on Wednesday (16.03.16).

UCPS hydropower capacity of 4 x 260 megawatts (MW), plans to begin full commercial operations in 2020. The stage consists of the construction, road construction Conductivity (Access Road), construction Upper & Lower Dam, Power House and aqueduct, and switchyard and construction of 500 kV Transmission Line.

With two existing dams, water is pumped from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir using the residual thermal energy (base load) taken from the system interconnect Java - Bali when the load is low at midnight or early morning.

Then, during peak hours (peak load) between the hours of 17:00 to 10:00 p.m., water flowed from the upper reservoir to the lower reservoir through two tunnels (headrace tunnel) and a fast pipe (penstock) to the powerhouse to generate electrical energy.

Cisokan hydropower is expected to increase the supply of energy during peak loads, as backup generation facilities (stand-by) if a decreased capacity on the network and helps regulate the overall system frequency between 49 and 51 Hz.

Overall installed capacity 1,040 MW, with Pumped Storage system is the first in Indonesia.
